At the beginning of the year, photoshop seemed very hard such that i didn't think i would get the hang of it. I have learnt a lot from doing my production work this year. I have learnt how to use photoshop. This includes changing the image size, adding effects, using the eraser tool , inserting a background on a selected image, using layers etc. Photoshop is a very complex programme that u can do many things on. I was working without a plan at first and then i realised the importance of using a plan for my production work because Photoshop is a complex programme that you can do many things on therefore one needs a plan to avoid getting side tracked. I have also learnt the importance of theory in media. In order to attain successful production work, one must put theory in practise. For instance i learnt about Camera Angles in class. I learnt the different purposes for different camera angles. This helped me decide on what camera angles i was to use in my production work. For example i used a close up shot for one of my contents page pictures in order to place emphasis on the models face to draw attention to her flawless skin and eyebrows.
I learnt about Representation in theory and i applied to my production work. This helped me decide on what colours i was going to use for my magazine, what images as well as the content. I did this with the aim of representing young females who love R and B music as well and fashion and lifestyle. I represented these females values in the text i used as well as the colours and images. I used my knowledge of representation in the construction of my magazine of the aspects of reality such as the up coming events and cultural identities. The morden culture in which young females belong is places much value on staying 'fit' therefore i put that on the front cover with the subheading '10 Ways to stay fit' as a way of representing them so that they are instantly attracted to the magazine. This was also another way of fulfilling the stereotypes surrounding young females today. My aim was to create a magazine that is a representation of the real world of people who love R and B music i think i succeeded in doing that!
During the construction of my magazine i remembered what we learnt in class about news values! We learnt this in relation to news papers but i discovered that i could apply the knowledge to my magazine too. I used Galtung and Ruge (1973) theory of news values on what stories Ame the news and why. I used this theory to decide on what news would make into my magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread. For instance i made the main exclusive story a surprise because surprise is exciting and entertaining for the readers.overall
Conclusion
I have learnt to express my creativity skills in constructing media products. I have also learnt research skills through researching about how other magazine institutions construct their media products. For instance i researched online about RnB magazines like RAP Up and Vibe in order ti get some ideas on how they attract their target audience. In addition to that i have gained application skills through applying theory onto my production work and putting it into practise. All the theory that i have learnt has contributed to the outcome of my magazine. In order to improve my skills on Photosho i had to practice a lot. I started by editing random pictures and by the time i took pictures for my production work, i was better at it. Below are some screen shot of the work that i did on Photoshop.
